Photographic opportunities are fewer during the wet season here in Cairns, but a few weeks back I tried something a little different for me, and the results are on the home page...

After looking at the results from the IAA awards and the judges proclivities, I will take the five from five bronze awards I received as a positive.

I had entered five photos into the 2009 International Aperture Awards competition and received notification that all five images have received bronze awards in the landscape and abstract/illustrative categories. Without having seen the competition (so to speak) I can't say whether this is an accomplishment or not yet...

Over a month and four and a half thousand images in Corsica and I was ready for some editing (not really - I would rather still be there as it's an "imagical" island with really friendly people and lots of great walking and photographic opportunities). It has already been a month since I returned though, and in that time I have sorted and edited all of the images plus redesigned and built this new look website - I hope you like it! I have simplified the gallery system with a cleaner look and no thumbnails but with more navigation options than first meets the eye (the image itself is a pause/play button, there are previous/next image controls and images numbers to jump to within each gallery). I have also found a few images that I had "missed" from previous trips that now appeal to me so there are a few new additions in some categories.
If you have lots of toolbars on your browser, all the real estate that they take up will reduce the size of the window for content, so you may not be able to see the menu at the bottom of the page if you have only a 1024x768 px screen. Big screens are more common now though and I personally don't like the clutter of those toolbars anyway, so although it may seem a bit inequitable, for aesthetic reasons, I have designed the site to be viewed in a full size 1024x768 px window or larger.
I will be putting up lots of new content and have already revised and added a few new articles, now under MUSINGS. It is my intention to add to them as regularly as time permits, including some biased evaluations and views on equipment and other photography related subjects, so you can bookmark my site and check back again if you're interested. I have now also included a new guestbook and would love to hear your comments!
